Red Fish, Blue Fish

6 Nov

Good morning, everybody! Hello from the nation’s capital on Election Day! As I walked to the Metro today, I passed by lots of people standing in line to vote. It seems as if voter turnout this election is higher than usual. I, for one, am happy that people are exercising this right! However, I am pretty ready for an end to all the election campaigns, the annoying Facebook posts, and the bombardment of commercials from every PAC known to man.

It doesn’t help that every time somebody mentions a red state or a blue state, I think of these guys.

Coming from and voting in Washington State means that there isn’t too much campaigning, as it’s not exactly a battleground state. I feel really bad for all the people who live in Ohio,Virginia, Florida, or any of the other hotly contested states. When Stef and I drove to the Shenandoah Valley last weekend, all we heard on the radio were various political ads.

Aaaaaand that’s all I’m going to say about this election. Onto better things, like food.

Yesterday’s lunch consisted of leftover couscous and vegetables, topped with some roasted potatoes I popped in the oven on Sunday night. It ended up being a rather large container and I wasn’t able to finish it, so I had what was leftover of the leftovers for dinner last night, as well!

Remember when I said that I was going to switch things up during breakfast and take out my yogurt bowls and PB & J sandwiches this week? So far, so good! Yesterday was a goat cheese and kale omelet and today’s breakfast looked like this:

I microwaved a sweet potato and topped it with some plain yogurt, along with some sliced apple and a couple spoonfuls of peanut butter (I guess I can’t entirely take out peanut butter!). Along with a hot mug of white pomegranate tea from Trader Joe’s, it was a nice start to the morning.

I’m amazed that I don’t feel really sore, because I upped the weights on the leg sections at Body Pump last night. Normally I have 6kg on each side of the barbell (not sure exactly how much the barbell weights – I should find out), but yesterday I added on 4kg to each side for 20 kg total…which is about 44 pounds, not including the weight of the barbel. I have absolutely no idea why the weights are in kilos at my gym, but there you go. I did 22 pounds for the chest presses and 15.4 pounds for the rest of the arms sets. Hoping to eventually get the rest of my arms up to 22 pounds, but it is slow going.

Stefano isn’t teaching today because they’re using his school as a voting area, so I’m hoping I can convince him to come downtown and visit me on my lunch break. I rarely get to see him during the week, so it would be a nice treat.

Food For Thought: Do you lift weights? What muscle groups do you struggle with in weight-lifting? How ready are you for elections to be over?
