25 Feb

Happy Monday, lovelies! It’s the last week of February already – this month just really came and went, didn’t it?

I had a very nice, low-key weekend. Got a workout in…

Plain Chobani with diced apples and cinnamon – delish!

Some were not.

On Saturday, I Stefano decided that he was in need of some new jeans so we made our way over to Pentagon City Mall for a little shopping. My approach to shopping is to make a list of what I need and get in and out as soon as possible. The mall totally exhausts me. Stefano is even worse – his approach is ‘wait until my clothes are in such a state of disarray that Sara has to go shopping for me’. Needless to say we are a great pair at the mall.

Luckily, the moment we got to the men’s side of Macy’s we were greeted with a one-day sale sign for jeans (don’t they have a one day sale every day?) so we stocked up and headed to the dressing room.

IMG_2092[1]Stefano reluctantly modeled his jeans for me.

IMG_2091[1]We left with two pairs of jeans in hand for under $50 – score! It only took us about 20 minutes too – my kind of shopping.

I have put myself on a self-imposed spending ban, but we decided to do a little walk around to get some exercise. We made a stop into Brookstone to test their massage chairs and hand-held massagers. That store makes going to the mall almost worth it. On our way out, we caught site of this:

IMG_2093[1]The purpose of the elastics is to replace shoelaces entirely: they come in different colors and one size fits all. I thought they could have done a better job with the name branding…

Sunday was fairly low-key, with the highlight being the Oscars. I don’t think I have ever watched an awards show from start to finish and I don’t think I can do it again. It just went ON AND ON. Was anybody else confused by the tie in sound editing? I didn’t even realize you could tie at the Oscars – doesn’t that defeat the purpose of the whole thing? I stuck it out until the end though because I needed to know who won the big three (best actor, best actress, best picture).

Can I just say that the fact that Jennifer Lawrence tripped as she was going onstage made her even more endearing to me? I am totally on the J-Law girl crush bandwagon. I am a huge fan of Ben Affleck and was stoked that Argo won best picture, despite Ben Affleck being left out of the Best Director nominations (seriously, what?).

Monday Motivation: Goals

This weekend, I sat down and made a list of goals I wanted to achieve this year. Some were financial (hence the spending ban), some were social (monthly brunch with friends), and some were fitness-related. One of my main goals is to incorporate more yoga into my life. After the run this weekend, I noticed almost immediately how tight my hip flexors became. I so often put yoga on the back burner in favor of a “real workout”, but I also notice how much better it makes me feel. I’ve found a way to compromise, which will mean getting up a little earlier during the week so I can make it to the morning yoga classes my gym offers and still be able to do my normal workouts after work. I haven’t had much luck with waking up early to work out, so wish me luck for tomorrow morning!

Food For Thought: Have you sat down with yourself and thought about goals you want to reach this week/month/year? What are some goals you hope to reach?

Week of Love Challenge

11 Feb

Happy Monday! I had a wonderful weekend – the sun was out and it was beautiful in Washington (hope all of you in the Northeast are safe and have your power!).

I got a little workout in…

IMG_2022[1]Ate some tasty food while indulging in some reading material…

IMG_2024[1]Do you love Zooey Deschanel as much as I do? I think she’s just fabulous.

I also got into the kitchen and did some baking – recipe to come tomorrow! Let’s just say it’s sweet, delicious, and not at ALL good for you.

I’m really looking forward to this week because Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday. Scoff all you want, but what is better than a holiday that reminds you to love your friends, family, and/or significant other? I think we could all use a reminder now and then, even it is triggered by a Hallmark holiday.

vdayStef doesn’t have work on Friday, so we’re going to make ourselves a really nice dinner on Thursday night. I prefer cooking with him than going out on a day when restaurants are totally packed with couples and everything feel very rushed. I’m also planning on getting crafty and making some Valentine’s day goody bags for my roommates – gotta share the love.

Since we’re in the week of love, I decided that this week’s motivation should be about loving your body, since the most important person to love is yourself. Before you can have a meaningful relationship with anybody else, you have to first have a good relationship with yourself.

A lot of these photos were taken from NOW’s Love Your Body Campaign, which occurs every year.

A different way to look at priorities:

BodyHeart is another great group that helps promote healthy body image through one-on-one coaching and group coaching. Here’s an interview with the founder, Amber Krzys, who talks about loving your body and yourself all the time.

So, in honor of Valentine’s Day and in honor of loving yourself and your body, I’m challenging my dear readers to take this week as an opportunity to express love for your family, your significant other, your friends, your co-workers, your neighbors – whomever! But, as always, loving yourself is first. We are going to start off the week with this challenge:

WeekofLoveMonI find that mirrors are the most prime opportunity for people to feel bad about themselves. They take the time to pick out things they don’t like, features they wish they could change. This time, we’re turning the tables. Every time you see your reflection today, I want you to remind yourself of the traits you like about yourself. They don’t have to be physical features, though they definitely can be! I want to see how you feel by the end of the day.

Please share with friends and family, so they can spread the love as well. As always, you know how to reach me 🙂

Have a wonderful start to the week of love!

(Re) Inaugural Motivational Monday

4 Feb

A few months back, I tried to add some structure to my blog by divvying the days up into special categories. Monday was going to be all sorts of motivational things, Tuesday was for random tidbits of interest that I found floating in cyberspace. Somewhere along the way, this idea got thrown by the wayside and I continued on into random blogging oblivion. Now I, being super Type-A, need structure in my life. I find that I struggle to put whatever happens to be on my brain in words, unless it’s revolving around an overarching theme.

That said, I am going to attempt to bring back some thematic days so I have a focal point for all my thoughts and my readers have some idea of what to expect when they read this blog.

While the jury is still out as to how I want the week to be structured, I am definitely on board with Mondays centering around inspiration and motivation. Because I usually choose the weekends as my time for rest, I have a tendency to feel very ‘blah’ by the time Monday rolls around. Couple that with the start of another work week and I find myself really dreading Mondays. I’m hoping that by focusing on pictures, stories, and videos that are positive and uplifting, I can pull myself out of the funk that is the “Mondays”. After all, who wants to start the beginning of the week in a bad mood, when it can instead be viewed as a fresh start?

So, without further ado, I introduce to you the inaugural Motivational Monday post. Again.

Sometimes you just need a pep talk:

Whether you’re just starting your fitness journey or have been exercising for years, love your body every step of the way.

Inspiration from around the world:

Make a conscious decision to be who you want to be.

That’s what I’ve got for now – I would love for everybody to participate in this as well. Send me articles, videos, pictures – anything that you find motivating and/or inspirational. You can always catch me by email, Twitter, Facebook, or just leave a comment down below.

Food For Thought: What do you think of my idea of having some themed days? Is there a particular theme you would like for me to dedicate a day to? Let me know!
